All art students will be exploring a variety of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, fibers, and graphic design. Learning will be focused around art skills, the elements and principles of art, art history, aesthetics, and criticism. See below for more!
Kindergarten - An Introduction to Art Kindergarten students will be introduced to art through basic skill building, an exploration of media, the elements of art, and creativity. This kindergarten artwork demonstrates shape, line, composition, and color through drawing and painting.
1st Grade - Let's Meet Famous Artists! 1st graders will "meet" many famous artists and illustrators, and become artists and illustrators themselves! Students will create artworks based on artists and illustrators like Matthew Cordell, such as the image to the left.
2nd Grade - Art Around the World 2nd graders will "travel around the world" and learn about the art of many different places and cultures. All artworks are based on new places, like this pot inspired by the Pueblo People of New Mexico.
3rd Grade - Traveling Through Time: Prehistoric to the Renaissance 3rd graders will jump into our "time machine" and travel back in time, starting with Cave Painting, and working up through Leonardo Da Vinci! Ancient Egypt is a favorite stop in our time machine.
4th Grade - Traveling Through Time: Impressionism to the Present 4th graders will continue on the art history timeline, beginning with famous artists like Claude Monet, and traveling to modern-day art! For this artwork, students emulated the work of the Regionalist painters by painting landmarks from the region around them.
5th Grade - Building Your Art Toolbox As 5th graders prepare for middle school, they will work on building their "art toolbox." This includes developing skills in drawing, shading, color mixing, painting technique, clay modeling, and artistic discussion.
