COURSE OFFERINGS
General Art (.5 credit)
The goal of this course is to provide students with a foundation in visual arts concepts. Emphasis will be placed on the process of making art through the use of the elements and principles of art. A variety of experiences will be offered through the use of materials such as colored pencil, marker, charcoal, watercolor, and clay. This class is intended to develop an appreciation of design in addition to developing beginning technical skills.
Units of Study: Zentangle, Colored Pencil, Charcoal, Watercolor, Pottery, Color Theory, Printmaking, Abstract art, and Graphic Design
Prerequisites: NA
Mixed Media (.5 credit) This is a beginning level course in which students will learn art concepts through hands-on exploration of mixed mediums such as; fibers, ceramic, metals, collage and sculpture. Students will develop knowledge and understanding of a wide range of art forms and subject-specific terminology. Emphasis will be placed on using the elements and principles of art/design in the creation of his/her own works of art.
Units of Study: Clay-Handbuilding, Potter's Wheel, Fibers, Basketry, Printmaking, Collage, Sculpture, Metals-Jewelry

Art I-Drawing/Painting (1 credit)
This course is designed as a beginning art class for students wishing to pursue upper level art courses. Students will be exposed to the Elements of Art and Principles of Design while developing drawing skills and painting techniques. Studio experiences in the classroom will give students opportunities to experience a variety of media (pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, colored pencil, watercolor, and acrylic) while developing student’s individual style and creative problem solving skills. Students will demonstrate their ability to respond, to analyze and to interpret their own artwork and the work of others through discussions, critiques, and writings.

Art II (1 credit)
This course is designed for the highly motivated art student. The course is designed to continue development of skills in drawing and painting. This course will consist of more in-depth study of observational drawing, 2-dimensional, and 3-dimensional processes, including ceramic sculpture. Students will also develop an appreciation for artwork of the past and present through classroom readings and writing assignments, as well as develop an ability to talk about their work and the work of others in classroom critiques. The Creative Art II course is a prerequisite for the Studio Art I course.

Art III (1 credit)
This is an advanced level course in two-dimensional and three-dimensional art with an emphasis on developing greater depth of understanding of art and application of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to their work in a variety of media. The course is designed for students who wish to pursue post high school art training. Studio experiences include drawing, painting, illustration, printmaking, and pottery/sculpture.
Units of Study: Charcoal, Scratch Board, Pen and Ink, Watercolor, Printmaking, Acrylic, Pointillism, Mosaics, Pastel, Batik, Pottery/Sculpture, and Art History
Prerequisites: Art I and Art II
Art IV (1 credit)
This is an advanced level course in two-dimensional and three-dimensional art with an emphasis on developing greater depth of understanding of art and application of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to their work in a variety of media. The course is designed for students who wish to pursue post high school art training. Studio experiences include drawing, painting, illustration, printmaking, and pottery/sculpture. Each student will demonstrate progress over time by developing a body of work and organizing a portfolio.
Units of Study: Charcoal, Scratch Board, Pen and Ink, Watercolor, Printmaking, Acrylic, Pointillism, Mosaics, Pastel, Batik, Pottery/Sculpture, and Art History
Prerequisites: Art I, Art II, and Art III
Graphic Arts (1 credit)
This is a yearlong course designed to introduce students to design applications used in the field of graphic arts. Students will be given instructions in various software and digital applications including but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite and Goggle Apps. Through exposure to and study of graphic design principles, creative/expressive typography, page layout and digital image manipulation, students will design projects such as posters, logos, magazine covers, brochures and t-shirt designs. Upon completion of the course student will have a strong foundation in graphic design which will enable them to create designs independently.
